33 in the log today, 2m only activation, part of the #145alive activity day here on the British Isles.
Lots of Scotland covered and some English stations too, good conditions overall!
It was a foggy, windy and frigid day to do radio in the mountains! I got a timely reminder from nature on the descent that sometimes it's not the blue sky but simply a break in the cloud that is Scotland's Majesty!
And yes, that is the #EuroBSDCon2024 scarf getting a mountain outing too!
My slides for my #EuroBSDcon talk "Building a Modern Packet Radio Network using Open Software", an overview of what myself and others have been doing to support the UK Packet Radio Network, are available on the con system:
- Slide PDF: https://events.eurobsdcon.org/media/2024/submissions/VMBGCY/resources/EuroBSDCon_Packet_Radio_3vxgXs7.pdf
- event page https://events.eurobsdcon.org/2024/talk/VMBGCY/
The talk is available on the live stream feeds - I start at 3:21:50 or at the following direct link:

I hit most of my main talking points, but there is some stuff in my notes I missed. I had a blast and it was a great weekend of pragmatic, technical and interesting conversation! I'm open for chat and can talk about radios alllll day!
Following on from the above, I have written up my thoughts on last weekend's @EuroBSDCon trip.

Long story short, I had a great time, really enjoyed speaking, listened to and learned a lot and met lots of interesting people.
By the time I left my brain was melted, but in the best way possible.
Best question I was asked all weekend: "You're Irish, can I take clotted cream home by air?" Sure buddy, go wild.
I was praised yesterday for my well informed and accessible writing in a regular email I send about ham radio in Debian so the email got transformed into a blog post.
tl;dr is:
* I’m pleased the uk packet network is growing
* I’m writing an accessible packet radio guide
* I’m accidentally starting a Linux distribution
* I’m speaking at #EuroBSDCon2024 about packet radio
* #wsjtx is making disappointing, user hostile changes.

One of these activities is much more significant in terms of brain activity and time than the others but they’re all quite intense things to do in parallel I guess 😂
I think there’s demand so there’ll be a few more of these as I do more activity and also i forgot the pleasure of writing things and want to do it more.
