#deltachat - one of the inspiring talks of #fosdem about #chatmail - de-centralised, resilient, safe, mature chat network with dignified on-boarding; all operated via email. "Over the years, Delta Chat has matured to be an easy-to-use, secure, and even fast messenger for all platforms, based on the massive e-mail server network. We'll give an overview of the ways Delta Chat is used today and how it is developed by a dozen active contributors." https://fosdem.org/2025/schedule/event/fosdem-2025-5853-delta-chat-from-e-mail-messaging-to-peer-to-peer-realtime-networking @delta

save lives, deliver babies: one of the best talks from #fosdem
How London Ambulance Service use open data to locate patients; how your phone sends live geospatial information to their control room; how other open (and some not-open) data saves lives across London every day. suitable for all ages.

one of the great talks of #fosdem - @zverik using osm data to bring the 15-minute city concept to life (also featuring a very well prepared demo section) https://fosdem.org/2025/schedule/event/fosdem-2025-4627-15-minute-city-in-15-minutes/
💁🏻 tips sought on minimal dependency blogging? as a person who posts rarely (i.e. after returning from #fosdem feeling all utopian), i recently tried to dust off my 11ty site... being unmaintained for a year, it is unsurprisingly not working and i've lost enthusiasm for static site gens, (thanks to Łukasz for the beautiful template though). seems it's time to make like @froos and just write markup? https://garten.salat.dev/meta/youre-doing-computing-wrong.html @lukem https://github.com/lwojcik/eleventy-template-bliss #ssg #blog #11ty #html
@bitboxer the arguments seem part of the show. #38c3 even featured a stage invasion recently! i remember the 2019 final keynote saying "foss is capitalism" and then <big scary sponsor> getting namechecked during the infra review eliciting a Janson sized roar of disapproval. <big scary sponsors> have had much less fanfare since then, but still, what is #fosdem for: utopia, dystopia, or an awkward mix of the two?
dear #gischat
do you enjoy your maps with any of the following accompaniments: waffles, untold varieties of beer, club mate, very fried frites, biscuits, chocolates, comics, software freedom?
...if so, you are warmly invited to pitch for the return of the open geospatial devroom at #fosdem

"bamboozlement now!" one of the best talks from this year's #fosdem featuring a swanee whistle for maximal impact: https://fosdem.org/2025/schedule/event/fosdem-2025-4933-bamboozling-badly-behaving-bots/
