An absolutely awesome talk from @benpate and highlighting just how early we all are in the journey of the Fediverse as a whole.
The LOLA data portability standard from W3C sounds really awesome and I really hope we see this sort of standard adopted across the fedi as it helps solve one of the bigger pain points where your posts are stuck on the instance you write it on.
There's a whole load of other really good points that again continue to align with the sorts of feedback I see regularly about "why fedi will never be mainstream" and the more talks I'm listening to today, the more confident I am things will become more mainstream and easier to adopt for those new to the network.
A great talk so far from the @Mastodon team here at #FOSDEM #FOSDEM26 On how the project is being structured and how it's building communities and bridges.
A real highlight on being resilient and self reliant something that I think is likely to be a theme this weekend.
Also really interesting to see the shift from depending on off the shelf commercial products to those they can self host.
Kudos @andypiper and @haubles for an awesome talk!
A really interesting view on cloud providers and frankly highlighting why digital sovereignty is even more important than ever.
Highlighting that continuing to go down the route of depending on overseas based / founded cloud providers is going to cause long term capability issues for the rest of us.
It's been a really good day here at #FOSDEM and has been well worth the trip. Tomorrow I've got a few less talks and looking forward to a lot of mooching and catching up with folks.
I ended up spending later half of the afternoon in the social Web dev room and got to listen in on some talks I wasn't expecting, whole thing has been really good and I look forward to getting stuck in looking at a whole load of projects I either had been meaning to look at or had never come across before today.
Excited for tomorrow and it's great getting to spend the evening with some folks I've met today enjoying some pizza!
Have been wondering around the stands in the K building at #FOSDEM #FOSDEM26 and found a couple of interesting projects I haven't come across before.
The one that looks really interesting is MFA management supporting tokens and other authentication types that can hook into key cloak which I haven't seen before.
Nothing Mastodon related or that will help the instances but interesting stuff I might end up wanting to use in the future.
Absolutely loving the Social Web dev room here at #FOSDEM and the variety of topics and were getting deep now around legacy and death and some really interesting thinking points about how to prepare for the e entuality.
It's certainly a topic I haven't put a whole lot of thought into before personally and right now handling accounts and the process to turn accounts into memorandum have some gaps. Very interested to find out more as the project develops.
