My entirely first world #FOSDEM challenge seems to be none of the coffee shops know what a mocha is or have anything similar on the menu.
Hot chocolate with a shot of espresso resulted in something weird earlier but thankfully "late with hot chocolate" seemed to work just now and I have a vaguely mocha like drink.
Downside is it cost 2.5 times more than a late but tis what tis 😂
Something a little different for me here at #FOSDEM leaning a bit about post quantum crypto.
A really good talk from @neverpanic
I thought the picture uploaded before but apparently it didn't!
A really cool slide showing just how big the changes in #Postgres major versions are and how much work that goes into it.
Ready for my first talk of the day.
This time with the image I meant to include but had hit send before the upload finished 😂
It's a slightly later start to #FOSDEM today for me, there's a talk I'm going to have missed but will catch the recording when I'm home but excited for the other talks I've got in my agenda for the day and getting to continue to wonder around seeing everything there is to see!
It's been a really good day here at #FOSDEM and has been well worth the trip. Tomorrow I've got a few less talks and looking forward to a lot of mooching and catching up with folks.
I ended up spending later half of the afternoon in the social Web dev room and got to listen in on some talks I wasn't expecting, whole thing has been really good and I look forward to getting stuck in looking at a whole load of projects I either had been meaning to look at or had never come across before today.
Excited for tomorrow and it's great getting to spend the evening with some folks I've met today enjoying some pizza!
An absolutely awesome talk from @benpate and highlighting just how early we all are in the journey of the Fediverse as a whole.
The LOLA data portability standard from W3C sounds really awesome and I really hope we see this sort of standard adopted across the fedi as it helps solve one of the bigger pain points where your posts are stuck on the instance you write it on.
There's a whole load of other really good points that again continue to align with the sorts of feedback I see regularly about "why fedi will never be mainstream" and the more talks I'm listening to today, the more confident I am things will become more mainstream and easier to adopt for those new to the network.
Absolutely loving the Social Web dev room here at #FOSDEM and the variety of topics and were getting deep now around legacy and death and some really interesting thinking points about how to prepare for the e entuality.
It's certainly a topic I haven't put a whole lot of thought into before personally and right now handling accounts and the process to turn accounts into memorandum have some gaps. Very interested to find out more as the project develops.
