Here are my first impressions using Statamic for my own site.
It's built on Laravel, and has some unique ideas for how to create a static website!

I have added alt text to every image in Larena Le Gassick's accessibility talk from the Laracon Australia PHP convention today.

Whilst I do not always add alt text to images, particularly when live posting images so quickly, I am more than happy to add it later - so please ask (for any past or future posts of mine) - and I'll be happy to oblige.

Quick note about ethics: Just because you can, it doesn't mean you should. Get permission before you try to break something. Don't go too far.

Includes built in support for rolling/cycling encryption keys as well! 👏
Encryption is two way.
Hashing is one way.
Laravel has built in support for hashing and encryption.
But how safe is that, really? Someone in your organisation might still be able to access that information.
Consider where keys are stored & who has access to those keys.
If you have valuable information you will be hacked. Eventually. Whether you know it or not.
Data encryption made easy

Privacy & Security are a legal requirement in Australia and New Zealand.
It may be a regulatory requirement... but we also have a social responsibility to keep our users safe, and we don't know what data will be dangerous for our user.
Only let a user access what they need to.
Tips for junior developers
Ask for support. Ask for a mentor. Ask questions.
If you are told "no" when you ask for help, find your own mentors - in or outside of the company. Reach out to the wider community.
Pair with everyone. You learn amazing things, and you figure out who is a good fit for you - and who you can ask to be your mentor.
Sometimes leaving for another job is for the best.
How it can go wrong
Many junior developers consider quitting tech after a bad experience.
This is a problem, we want junior developers to enjoy the experience and to be supported and encouraged.
"Tech is for me" <-- might not feel comfortable saying this
