PHP[TEK] 2024

Ben Ramsey (19)

OH: ā€œA lot of the stuff that Python gets praised for being fast at, PHP now outperforms Python at doing, but itā€™s a story weā€™re not really telling. We should be telling that story.ā€

Iā€™ve seen a number of folks get excited about contributing to since , and thatā€™s amazing!

My advice: pace yourself, and start small. Give yourself a long runway, and if you donā€™t contribute at the level you were hoping, donā€™t count that as a failure, and donā€™t beat yourself up over it.

Itā€™s easy to burn out quickly if your expectation is to jump head-first into open source. Every contribution, no matter how tiny you perceive it, is a success.

This is part of the reason I couldnā€™t get to a good place (mentally) in order to do a _real_ ā€œSaving Open Sourceā€ talk at :

From @geerlingguy: ā€œ2024 is the year corporate open source diedā€

Is there a way to do an ā€œORā€ search for hashtags on ? Or maybe one of the apps has implemented this? @MonaApp, do you support this?

I want to do a search like this:

OR OR

Then, I want to save or bookmark it, so I can check it regularly as a separate ā€œfeed.ā€

(Edit: I know about the advanced interface, but Iā€™m on mobile, specifically iOS.)

Cesar Mendez attended @phptek for the first time last year and wrote about his experience. You can have a similar experience if you attend!

Iā€™ve posted the slides to my package tutorial at . Many apologies for not posting them beforehand. I normally do that, and it slipped my mind this time.
