Only the most upsetting discoveries for my PNW friends #PyConUS
I'm off to #PyConUS, a sold-out event in Pittsburgh, just like 2020 was going to be.
I'm particularly proud, because negotiating a 2024 conf in Pittsburgh back in 2020 was one of the most important things we could do to make sure @ThePSF successfully survived the economic impact of the early pandemic.
Thank you, past PSF staff and board members for the work you did back then, and to current fellow board members and staff for everything you've done to bring #PyConUS back to scale. I'm excited.
Python 3.13 is huge.
New REPL with paste mode and other cool things, and a JIT that doesn't slow the interpreter down, and much much more.

And now they're talking about unGILing Python and they're serious about it?!? #PyConUS
Because it's part of the #PyConUS discourse: it's possible to have a data-driven public health policy that gives space for people who need masks and filtered air (https://social.coop/@NorthBayPython@social.northbaypython.org/112497230127564879). We're doing that at #NBPy, and I'm happy to share lessons we learned this year and last.
Now that #PyConUS is over, why not attend and support a regional #Python conference?
PyCon US sold out this year, and it will probably continue to do so. Smaller, regional events are going to be a more important part of how we support the growth of our community, but we need your support -- attendance and sponsorship -- to fulfil that role.
I run @NorthBayPython (#NBPy), but there's plenty of others in the US, including fellow @ThePSF events @pycascades and @pyohio off the top of my head.
Just #PyConUS things: tooting exclusively with people who are no more than 6 seats away from me.
Conferences are so good for shared experiences 😂
