PyCon US 2025

Mariatta 🤦🏻‍♀️ python (44)

My experience at the US Pre-clearance checkpoint at YUL (Montréal airport). Canadian passport + Nexus card holder.

Got selected for random pat-down from top to bottom, front and back by a lady agent. Had to take off my shoes and show the bottom of my feet to her.

At the passport control checkpoint, the agent told me to look at his webcam. Then he asked two questions: Where am I going (Pittsburgh), and anything to declare (no).

And then I was good to go.

2025 will be a special personal celebration for me, celebrating 10 years since my first ever PyCon and how far I've come since then.

PyCon US 2015 was one of the turning point in my life that sets the path to where I am now.

Part of me just thinks that I'm just the same person all along, but at the same time I know I'm a better version now compared to before.

The conference is gonna be great, and I'm looking forward to be surrounded by the Python community for the next week.

🤫 Sharing my favorite secret offsite lunch spot at

Sree's Foods just a short walk away from the conference venue. It's basically Indian food takeout counter: curries, biryani, samosa, etc. They're only open at lunch time and on weekdays. Food is tasty, affordable, and they have lots of vegan options. Just in case you're looking for something other than conference lunch during the tutorials/sprint days.

⚠️ Pro tips for any Summit presenters at PyCon US 2025: (hatchery, language, maintainer, community organizers, etc)

1. Light mode for your slides
2. Use big fonts
3. Share presentation link to your audience so they can follow along in case your slides are not readable

We're at the Python Language summit and we just made a presenter change their slides from dark mode into light mode, and also Guido had to move his seat to be right in front of the projector in order to read the slides.

✅ Presentation done at Python Language Summit

I shared updates and news from Python docs Editorial board and beyond. A big focus of discussions today is about official Python docs translations into various languages, how we can help and support translation.
