Yesterday I met the mother of an autistic trans woman who is a recent computer science graduate here in Pittsburgh. Daughter is looking for a job and would love to get in touch digitally with some people at #PyConUS who could provide support.
I mentioned @pyladies as one resource, but it would be great to put her directly in touch with some local and/or currently-in-town Pythonistas that she could relate to.
Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions? I can put people in touch.
@jacobegood I'm also excited! My first #PyConUS as well. See you at Newcomer Orientation? https://us.pycon.org/2025/events/newcomer-orientation/
#PyConUS I think Ballroom BC is in for a treat. You might want to see this one in person...
Flight got delayed due to a sensor issue. Ended up deplaning. Got rebooked to a direct flight on another carrier. Waiting for that now, and it'll arrive in Pittsburgh an hour later than originally expected, which means rush hour apparently, which pushes an appointment I had to tomorrow morning, which means one less hour of PyCon. Sigh. Hopefully that's the worst thing that happens on this trip. Now, where should I spend my meal vouchers... #PyConUS
Cory Doctorow ( @pluralistic ) is giving the first keynote at #PyConUS tomorrow morning. But tonight, he has a stop on his book tour here in Pittsburgh! It's at 7PM ET at White Whale Books, which is just a few miles from the convention center.
You can still RSVP here for FREE: https://whitewhalebookstore.com/events/20250515
If anyone wants to go with a group, reply here.
