PyCon US 2025

Day 2 (72)

I see tons of posts in my timeline and it pains me a little. Not b/c of FOMO, but b/c it is not safe for people like me to attend a conf in the USA at this moment.

Very few confs are moving to online only and/or outside of the USA. I wish more would do this.

If not, just cancel as a form of protest. Keep going as scheduled is a sign that no one visible is hurt by this, and no one care about the invisible ones.

I think I just rode the elevator up to my room with @freakboy3742 whose work I admire tremendously!

But one of the downsides of being partially blind is that after the 500th time when you say “hello are you $X“ and they look at you like you’re an alien you get a little bit more cautious about that kind of thing :-)

Sooo, I took an umbrella handle to the face tonight (the button is too easy to trigger) and wound up bleeding all over the exhibit hall floor. I'm fine. It was a face wound that bled a lot but was ultimately a teensy cut.

Still, I'm SO thankful to all the people who rushed to help! Y'all showed why our community is so awesome. I made it home safe and am in good shape because of your care!

Now I can say I bled for ! 😂

badge picked up! even got ribbons this time (albeit the lowest common denominators of pronouns & contact comfort level)

On the front, I shouldn't be surprised at this point, but I was still expecting more than 1% mask wearing from this crowd 😓

(Which is rich coming from me, since I was out & about last night w/o a mask for the first time in years; but I did have nasal spray in play & was picking venues for thin crowd / open windows. & am masking while in the CC!)

Only been near the Cathedral of Learning for a hot minute, but already learning a lot, like "Pittsburgh has some cool architecture!!"

goers, this university neighborhood has a bunch of neat buildings & was a like 10 minute bus ride from near the CC.

🤫 Sharing my favorite secret offsite lunch spot at

Sree's Foods just a short walk away from the conference venue. It's basically Indian food takeout counter: curries, biryani, samosa, etc. They're only open at lunch time and on weekdays. Food is tasty, affordable, and they have lots of vegan options. Just in case you're looking for something other than conference lunch during the tutorials/sprint days.
