PyCon Italia 2026

Paolo Melchiorre (41)

Did anyone take a photo of Deb Nicholson pineapple pizza slide? 🍍🍕

As an Italian, I was too shocked to react quickly enough and capture it myself 😭

This afternoon at PyCon Italia 2026 I’m serving as talk manager in the “Gnocchi” room 🎤🍝

Right now I’m helping Aastha Asthana prepare her talk “Beyond Caching: Supercharging Python with Redis Data Structures”.

It’s always nice to help other speakers feel comfortable on stage, especially people giving one of their first talks, just like many others helped me years ago with mine ✨

Today was Beginners Day at @pycon 2026 🐍

Me and @carlton used the morning to run Django Off The Med: a small @django sprint, far from the sea but with the same spirit of Django on the Med.

Beginners, first-time contributors, and more experienced people worked together on issues and pull requests.

A productive and very nice way to start the conference 🙂

Closing the second day of @pycon 2026 as talk manager for @BajoranEngineer keynote.

After a long day, I’m tired but genuinely happy to help Dawn on stage. Years ago, she helped me when I gave my first talk abroad at @djangoconeurope 2019 in Copenhagen. It feels special to return the favour.

Her keynote, "Stop Being a Generalist", explores why going deep on a domain can be more valuable than trying to do everything.

This afternoon, after the closing keynote, around sixty PyCon Italia participants joined a guided tour through the historic centre of Bologna.

I also had a talk in the CFP, and one made it through the community vote, so I’ll be joining the speaker lineup. 🎤

I wonder who else around here is coming as a speaker this year. 🕵️

Right now I’m on the train heading to Bologna 🚆

This trip has become a small ritual for me over the years. A few quiet hours to slow down, think, revisit slides, and decompress a little before the usual whirlwind of people and events. 🧘‍♂️

The train keeps moving north along the Adriatic coast, with the sea outside the window accompanying much of the journey 🌊

I’m curious if other people also have rituals like this before conferences. In any case, safe travels everyone 🙂

Yesterday the first acceptance emails for PyCon Italia 2026 were sent out. 📩

Huge congratulations to all the speakers who got in. I know how much work and courage it takes to submit a proposal. 🎉

And a big thank you to everyone who sent a talk and to the community who took the time to vote. That energy is what makes this conference real. 🙏

See you in Bologna at the end of May 😎

Missed the PyCon US 2026 CFP deadline because you were “just about to submit”? ⌛

If you too are a “professional procrastinator”, don’t worry, this is your lucky exception 😉

The CFP for PyCon is still open…
just not the one in Long Beach 🏖️

Jokes apart, you can present your talk in Bologna at PyCon Italia 2026: English talks, 1k+ attendees, late spring weather, great food, and a historic city 🇮🇹

After the keynote I spent most of the morning meeting lots of people around the Python Italia booth, by the pool, and around the conference venue 🐍✨

I also met more people contributing to Python itself or involved in the Django project, and then we all headed together to the legendary PyCon Italia lunch 😄

Try zooming into the photos to better appreciate the amount of food that appeared on those tables 👀🍝
