EuroPython 2024

Day 5: Talks (25)

This week I had the opportunity and privilege to participate in 2024, and also present Lightning Talk. It was possible to meet and reconnect with a lot of great people, as well as find out more about different companies that use Python in the old world. I am very happy to once again realize and confirm that wherever there is a Python community there are welcoming and partnering people.

@kushal @sabderemane it was awesome to see you again, hope to meet you even more times.

After accidentally DDOSing piwheels for years with every @octoprint update*, today I was able to apologize to @bennuttall in person at ! Great success! 😄

* It turns out that when you push out a new release of your software and as a consequence thousands of Raspberry Pis out there pull in new dependencies, at a certain project size the traffic will cause mysterious spikes in piwheels' logs that take a while to figure out the cause for 🤪

It's a wrap! What an incredible experience has this year's @europython been! So many interesting talks and so many opportunities to network and socialize. (being shy, I didn't utilise this to 100% 😅)

This has been by far the best conference I've been on, and I'm looking forward to the next year's one. A huge thanks to the organisers and the volunteers who made all of this possible! Děkujeme a na shledanou!

I don’t know if I’m the ‘old man yelling at cloud’ here, but I feel really uncomfortable when I see people use AI-generated images in their presentations as if it’s no big deal, and with no indication whatsoever. For human-made pictures, you have to put copyright notices, but LLMs are suddenly fine? I’m afraid to imagine how many creators you’d have to credit…

@zeratul2099 yeah, I was to a tutorials session last year, and decided to join with volunteers this year precisely because it felt very welcoming and open. And true it was this year as well. So many cool people and cool things they work on. Yay
