FWD50 2023

Day 1 (99)

You know, I’ve followed and read @sboots’s thought pieces for a long time, but I am not sure if I can truly pay close attention to his 12 hours and 25 minutes long talk today at #fwd50

@bethmaru I like the idea of Mastodon but for the accounts that I like to follow 50% are still on X and the other 50% seem to be mainly active on LinkedIn. Maybe @sboots’s attempt to use #fwd50 to get more public servants to be active here, can be the turning point?

Fantastic talk by @sboots on what ails government tech in Canada — and elsewhere — and what could be done to fix it, without a shoutout to @Marthalanefox’ paper in 2010 gov.uk/government/publications & @govuk & @GDSTeam since. Humble, smart, inspiring.

That's a wrap for Day 1 at 2023! And what a day it was; asking ourselves questions on digital transformation, service delivery, digital maturity, Indigenous knowledge, team management, user research and more within the context of public service and government!

The fun doesn't end there - tonight at 6PM, grab your tickets for 'Glorious Blunders: A Public Service Fail Fest' at the Three Brewers in Ottawa (fwd50.com/session/1245/gloriou)

Dusted off my classic ‘national disgrace’ ONS website story for the #FWD50 FailFest - been years but still lands 😆

“My goal is no longer focused on digital teams - y’all are doing a great job - but focused on changing the system in which delivery operates.” - @pahlkadot at

What are we going to do to tend the soil, pull weeds… REMOVE cruft not just add more to the policy layers.
