What happens when you mandate masks at a conference now that most people no longer wear them but medically vulnerable people are still at risk because #CovidIsNotOver? In the case of #PyConUS, the conference sells out.
Why a masking policy? “Many of us and our fellow community members can’t attend without health and safety guidelines in place. We want PyCon US to be an event that everyone feels safe attending,” organizers explained.
Well done @pycon https://fosstodon.org/@pycon/112445571644276379
Left from #PyConUS about 33 hrs ago. Had a scratchy throat this morning w/ a negative test and just now have a positive test.
I went out with various groups, unmasked, throughout the weekend. This was a risk I was willing to take. Still, I'm glad I was wearing a mask in the convention center around folks who did not choose to take that same risk.
I'm gonna go rest now.
The existence of the term "con crud" really should have been a greater indicator of how spaces are constructed and managed to exacerbate or mitigate the spread of illness.
I'm glad @kiwipycon and #PyConUS have been #COVIDcautious and doing things about it, but what other #conventions organisers are?
🧳 PyCon US Bound.
If you are attending #PyConUS, I encourage you to reach out and say hi.

To those who follow this account for #Covid rants and politely tolerate my posts about the wonderful and elegant #Python programming language I’ve used almost daily for over a decade: The #pycon2024 conference required masks because they apparently haven’t stopped caring about the people behind the keyboards.
Yes, masks. In 2024. At a tech conference. It’s a beautiful thing.
At the same time that bad-faith "pollers" are asking about #PyConUS masking, the attendee survey asks about it as well. But that survey only goes to attendees, meaning people put off by the requirement this year will not be asked. How do we get a complete view of the entire population of potential attendees?
Planning my veg-ish eating for #PyConUS
Rosewater Middle Eastern looks like it has good veg options and Arepittas looks like it probably does too.
ShadoBeni also looks really good, though it's a bit of a walk from the conference center.
Folks eating vegan/vegetarian this trip: found any other eats that look promising?
(Editing to also add the not-officially-recognized but widely used #PyCon hashtag as well 🤫)
