PyCon US 2025

"play is only play if it's self directed" has just set off a lot of lightbulbs about my school's mandatory sports program 🤔

It's quite something to see a journalist who cut their teeth in Lawrence pre-Django talking about eventually learning to code, and then building out journalism tooling in Django. It's amazing seeing how much good has come out of one reasonably small newspaper.

A thoroughly well-deserved Community Service Award given to @daisy for service during an exceptionally long tenure at the helm of @pyconau, presented at .

It's an absolute travesty that she is unable to accept it here in person. I hope this country can start doing better by trans people again in the future.

Really feeling for Amanda from @whitecoatcaptioning, our wonderful captioner, who has to type out all of these variations of "enshit-" in the middle of this breathless talk from @pluralistic. AMAZING JOB.

A donation from @ThePSF in 2001 bootstrapped Software Carpentry? Well that is quite the long-term success story from a PSF grant. Amazing.

Glad to see @pluralistic on stage in a mask at . I do appreciate seeing important people encouraging good practices.

Just want to call out how effective this panel is as a way to construct a talk on a complex subject. This is still a prepared presentation -- look at the slides matching the discussion topics -- but using a community member as a host to "guide" the discussion, bridging us to "outsiders" with an important story. It looks like a panel, but it isn't that.

As someone who appreciates the craft of presentation, this is A++. Thanks @Jackiekazil et al!

... GIL-free options for Python *and* a colourful REPL?

Python 3.14 may just be most important release in a year!

Just discovered that I'm one of today's captioners' shortcuts, despite not being on stage this morning 🤣

That's how I know I've finally made it! (hi @whitecoatcaptioning!)

So the shittle trains at DFW broke in one direction. I made my flight with 30 seconds to spare, by running out of the terminal, getting one of the shuttle buses, which eventually got to the right terminal. Jelf.

STS DFW 🥵 PIT

so I'll still make tomorrow
