You can get so used to being busy that resting actually feels painful. When your standard M.O. is 110%, doing anything differently feels so unfamiliar that it’s scary and sometimes awful.

In the last year and a half I have written a lot of Rust code, only some of which is open source at the moment: Xot, the capable XML tree library.
I have also most of a XPath 3.1 implementation and part of an XSLT 3.0 implementation. And a structural human readable diffing library for XML documents.
I happen to have a (revived) background in established tech like XML and I can write Rust, which makes for an interesting combination.
#TypeScript: I was perplexed why JavaScript would let me use for-of to iterate over the result of .querySelectorAll(), but TypeScript told me I could not do that.
Thankfully, that’s easy to fix: Simply add "DOM.Iterable" to "lib"—e.g.:
"lib": [
"es2022", "DOM", "DOM.Iterable"
],
Spent some of the weekend playing with Arduinos + Home Assistant (@homeassistant) to keep a better eye on my plants. Even though it's C++, it's so refreshing compared to shipping modern prod code!
Single file, no tests, no 3rd party dependencies, no infra, just run code & see results immediately (if it works, it's done). And with deep sleep the result should keep running on battery for years untouched. Super fun! ✨
Morgen, erste Nacht war gut. Ich wurde noch nicht wegen Schnarchens erschlagen. Stehen auf der Wiese ihres Onkels und frĂĽhstĂĽcken
@carnage4life It's awful, but also a lesson in loyalty. No matter how much of yourself you give to these corps, they'll let you go via email in a heartbeat. I can't imagine wanting to give anything but the bare min at a company that does this.
